Ørsted inks new partnerships for South Korean 1.4 GW offshore wind project

The collaboration with KOEN and POSCO boosts the development of the plant.

Denmark-based Ørsted has announced new partnerships to support the development of its 1.4 gigawatt (GW) offshore wind project in South Korea.

According to Ørsted, it inked a memorandum of understanding with with state-owned power generation company KOEN. The Korean firm’s “deep knowledge of Korea’s power market, supply chain, and offshore wind development will be pivotal in aligning the project with national policies and industry needs.”

Another partnership was signed with POSCO Group.

“We’re creating opportunities for broad collaboration that combines POSCO’s strengths within steel, engineering, and industrial development with Ørsted’s global offshore wind expertise,” the company said.

Ørsted’s 1.4 GW Incheon offshore wind project is approximately 70 kilometres off the coast of Incheon.

“Subject to final investment decision, the Incheon project is expected to be among the largest offshore wind farms in Korea and play a key role in accelerating the country’s clean energy transition,” Ørsted said.
