PH introduces enhancements to support floating solar generation

This includes reallocation of the 1,040 MW installation target capacity.

The Philippines’ Department of Energy (DOE) has introduced enhancements to boost the country's floating solar capacity under the Fourth Round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA-4).

According to the department, one of the key highlights of Advisory No. 2 on Floating Solar is the reallocation of the 1,040 megawatt (MW) installation target capacity previously scheduled under Luzon for 2026, distributing it across 2027, 2028, and 2029. This aims to provide developers with more preparation time, enhance project feasibility, and support grid readiness for this technology.

Additional 175 MW for floating solar was also allocated for Visayas, scheduled for auction in 2027 and 2028.

“By proactively adjusting timelines and capacity allocations, the DOE is signalling strong institutional support for innovative RE solutions, while creating space for broader participation among developers and investors,” the department said.

This move supports the Philippines’ goal of 35% renewable energy share by 2030.
