PLN, HydroWing to develop Indonesia’s first tidal energy plant

This builds on the 2022 deal to accelerate the country’s tidal energy.

State-owned PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara) has signed a binding agreement with HydroWing to develop the first tidal current power plant in Indonesia that will be located in East Nusa Tenggara.

The agreement for the 10-megawatt facility came after a 2022 memorandum of understanding wherein the parties agreed to fuel tidal energy in Indonesia through site identification, resource assessment and front-end engineering.

PLN Subholding will be responsible for activities such as bathymetry, site survey, ADCP measurements and sediment samples as well as conducting interconnection impact studies. HydroWing, meanwhile, will conduct a feasibility study, technology studies, project implementation schedules and O&M plans.

Both parties will jointly work on the licensing process plan and conduct social and environmental studies.
