Powerlink completes Queensland transmission infrastructure

The construction included two 330 kV switching stations and 65 km transmission lines.

Powerlink finished the construction of the transmission infrastructure that will allow the MacIntyre Wind Farm and Queensland’s second renewable energy zone to connect to the grid and supply electricity to the state.

In a statement, Powerlink said the transmission infrastructure includes two 330 kilovolt (kV) switching stations, 65 kilometres of new 330 kV transmission lines and 165 towers.

This infrastructure will enable the export of up to two gigawatts of electricity into the grid, with the MacIntyre Wind Farm accounting for almost half of the amount. The wind farm, owned by ACCIONA Energia, will start supplying power in stages in 2024 and 2025.

“This is a significant milestone on one of Powerlink’s flagship projects, with the MacIntyre Wind Farm being the first stage in our Southern Downs Renewable Energy Zone,” said Powerlink Chief Executive Paul Simshauser.
