Quinbrook begins construction on 250 MW BESS project in Queensland

It signed an offtake agreement with Origin Energy.

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has reached the financial close and started the construction of the first stage of a 250-megawatt (MW)/2hr battery energy storage system (BESS) in Queensland.

In a statement, Quinbrook said it invested around $211.8m (A$325m) in the Supernode BESS project, which is part of a $1.6b (A$2.5b) battery and data centre integrated facility at South Pine.

“The successful close of Supernode stage one is significant for Queensland as it delivers valuable large-scale storage at the best possible location in the State’s power grid. Supernode also directly addresses stability issues facing the grid as a result of record levels of rooftop solar installation across Queensland,” said David Scaysbrook, co-founder and managing partner for Quinbrook.
