Tata Power-Bhutan skills pact to support 5-GW clean energy dev’t
Safety to operations training sequence supports Bhutan energy buildout.
Tata Power and Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a skills development ecosystem supporting the development of up to 5,000 megawatts of clean energy capacity in Bhutan.
In a press release, Tata Power said the agreement focuses on building a trained workforce for the operation and maintenance of large-scale clean energy assets under the companies’ ongoing partnership.
Training programmes will be delivered through the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI), which will provide technical expertise, training infrastructure, courseware, and accreditation support.
TPSDI is accredited by the National Safety Council of India and works with the National Skill Development Corporation and the National Council for Vocational Education and Training.
DGPC will mobilise trainees and coordinate implementation with relevant Bhutanese authorities.
The companies have outlined a phased training structure, with the first focusing on safety induction and workforce readiness before site entry for project workers.
The second will cover technical skills for construction activities, including material handling and earth-moving equipment operations; whilst the final phase will focus on specialised training for the operation and maintenance of clean energy assets.
Tata Power will obtain approvals from the Government of India, whilst DGPC will secure approvals from the Government of Bhutan and relevant authorities.
Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, Managing Director of DGPC, said the programme will support workforce requirements linked to clean energy development and align with national workforce priorities.
