Western Australia opens tender for 2,000 MWh clean dispatchable capacity
Projects should have a minimum registered capacity of 30 MW.
The Western Australian government is seeking bids for dispatchable capacity projects in its wholesale electricity market (WEM) through the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tender 2 – WEM Dispatchable Capacity (Tender 2).
In a statement, authorities said the tender aims to deliver 500 megawatts (MW) of 4-hour equivalent or 2,000 megawatt-hours of clean dispatchable capacity. This will help support the state’s energy system to reach 82% renewables by 2030.
The government said the projects must meet eligibility criteria. It should also be located in Western Australia, connect to the South West Interconnected System, have a minimum storage duration of 2 hours, and have a minimum registered capacity of 30 MW.
AEMO Services will administer the CIS tender 2 process on behalf of the Australian Government.
Project bids will close in mid-August and announcement of successful bids is expected in early 2025.
