China doubles PV installation targets

The Chinese Government increased the country’s target for PV installations from 5GW by 2015 to 10GW.

It has also increased installation targets for 2020 to have 50GW of PV installations, up from 20GW target previously planned.

The NDRC was also planning to issue a five-year ‘blueprint’ specifically for the PV industry that would include a policy framework document for the industry sector.

Recently, the Chinese Government said it was also planning quality control checks on PV manufacturers, though the major producers wouldn’t be affected as they all meet IEC and UL certifications as major exporters.

The move to raise the installation targets could be seen as a response to the nuclear accident at Fukushima, Japan or perhaps the growing concerns over key PV markets of Germany and Italy starting the year on a very weak footing, pushing module and inverter inventories higher.
