China wastes 2.8 billion kWh of wind power

China wasted 2.78 billion kilowatt hours of power generated by its wind farms in a half-year period in 2010.

The report by Beijing Times, citing the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, did not indicate whether the half year period was in the first half of the year or the second half of the year.

The wastage was because the power generated could not be connected to the grid.

According to the commission, a main reason why the wind power and photovoltaic power generated could
not be connected was due to a problem with security.

Inner Mongolia lost 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of the wind power generated, accounting for 75.68 per cent of the total.
