Chinese company to process nuclear waste

China prepares to recycle nuclear waste into something less harmful.

Changsha Boiler Plant Company, Ltd (CBP) in the city of Changsha in Hunan has started building the first Chinese-made reactor to process radioactive nuclear power plant waste using a plasma furnace.

The furnace was jointly developed by CBP, a state-owned firm, and Shenzhen-based China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute (CNPRI).

The most advanced technology in the world will be put to use in the facility, said Huang Wenyou, Director of the National Energy Development and Research Center on nuclear equipment

CBP has helped build a series of nuclear-related equipment for the Dayawan Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong and the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant in Shandong, which is currently being built.
