India's NHPC to invest $1.15b in eight hydropower projects
The hydropower projects will be located in three Indian states.
The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) will invest an approximate of $1.15b (₹98,000 crore) in eight hydropower projects across Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Jammu and Kashmir.
Since October 2025, NHPC Limited and its JV/Subsidiary companies commissioned 23 hydropower projects with a capacity of 7,771 megawatts. The additional eight hydropower projects under construction will generate a total of 8,514MWs.
Despite the 8.7% decrease of electricity generated for this year, the ongoing construction of the eight hydropower projects will almost double the hydropower capacity, which will strengthen India’s hydropower output.
