AREVA gets interconnection contract in China

AREVA will supply High Voltage Direct Current systems for projects interconnecting the Ningdong and Shangdong regions and the Three Gorges Dam to Shanghai.

AREVA's Transmission and Distribution division, in partnership with China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI), has been awarded a contract worth US$135 million, which was signed with the State Grid of China. The systems will be delivered in December 2010.

HVDC technology connects power networks and transmits large amounts of electricity over long distances with minimal losses. China plans to transmit more than 130 GW of electricity over the next five to ten years.
