China puts 7 smart substations into operations

China has recently put into operations seven intelligent substations which includes Beichuan intelligent substation.

The Beichuan intelligent substation has a capacity of 110 KV in Sichuan province and the Wushan intelligent substation, which is also included, has a capacity of 220 KV in Qingdao, Shandong province.

According to Deputy General Manager Shu Yinbiao, compared with traditional substations, the intelligent substation in Qingdao could save approximately 22.4 million yuan, on the assumption of an operating period of 15 years.

State Grid Corporation of China intends to invest 500 billion yuan during the 12th Five-Year Plan period to build the backbone grid of ultra-high voltage grids and related projects, according to an unnamed source.
