First bio-fuel test flight by Chinese airline successful
China Eastern Airlines Corporation Ltd A320 uses a new palm oil-based bio-fuel.
The Airbus successfully completed an 85 minute test flight last week using a new palm oil-based bio-fuel developed by the Sinopec Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Company.
The flight took place over the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. The A320 carried out several extreme high-altitude maneuvers to test the fuel's stability.
After the flight, the pilot said the aircraft produced a level of thrust that was no different from traditional fuels.
Sinopec, China's largest refiner, said the conglomerate actually developed two new bio-fuels, the other being made from waste cooking oil.
China Eastern Airlines is a major Chinese airline operating international, domestic and regional routes. It is China's second-largest carrier by passenger numbers and the world’s third-biggest carrier by market value.
