Kyocera boosts module capacity to 1GW

New PV module assembly plants are being built by Kyocera in the Czech Republic and Tianjin, China.

Kyocera’s capacity will reach 1GW in early 2013 with new PV module assembly plants in China and Czech Republic. The expansions at the two new plants will contribute another 620MW of nameplate capacity.

In China existing production is being shifted to a new, larger facility in Tianjin, which should be completed this spring.

When the new plant is fully ramped, it is expected to have a nameplate capacity of 360MW. The original plant, established in 2003, had a nameplate capacity of approximately 100MW.

"Kyocera aims to differentiate itself in the growing solar market through the high performance and high reliability of our products," stated Tetsuo Kuba, president of Kyocera Corporation. "By utilizing our strengths in manufacturing technology and expanding our global production capacity, we will continue to aggressively develop our solar business."
